Customer Story: The DeVries’ Dream Home

The DeVries family wanted to add some extra character to their dream home as it was being built. And they were kind of enough to include us and our lumber in their plans. By the way, the DeVries were building much of their beautiful Kentucky home overlooking Drakes Creek themselves.

We consulted with them, discussed their needs and wants, and came up with a game plan that included Shiplap, Tongue and Groove and Reclaimed Barn Wood Flooring. What they created with our lumber is nothing short of glorious.

Fireplace and Shiplap Wall

Check out the creative ways they brought their wood, furniture, and decor together to make a truly unique space! Between the fireplace, that incredible bar, and the stone work, we love it! We are so happy for them!

Chris and Monica picked up 1,300 sq ft of 1x8 shiplap. It was gray washed with Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter. They came back and stain washed it with Classic Gray with some Ebony mixed in. She said her arm hurt for a while after all of it, but it clearly paid off in big ways!

Kevin and Audra have built an absolute dream home! Every inch of the home pops with character and life. From the shiplap ceilings, to the private pool, hot tub, and the comfortable beds, this AirBnB is incredible! Honestly, the home is a wonderful reflection of who they are as people. Everywhere you turn, character seems to ooze out of this place.

Challenging Shower Drain

These two servants knew they were walking into a challenging situation, but had no idea how challenging it would actually end up being. When they began ripping out the old shower, they uncovered a previous renovation had been left incomplete and no drain had been attached to the shower. The shower water was draining directly into and filling the crawl space.

Termite Damage

After ripping up the rotting sub-flooring, they found the termite-eaten floor joists and knew this was about to become a much more significant situation. Determined to serve her and give her a better situation, they dove in and started. overcoming obstacles!

The Dirty Work

They installed all new flooring joists, plumbing, and electrical in her bathroom, and even were able to get a local pest company to help treat the house for termites for free. They installed new shiplap walls, tongue and groove ceiling, linoleum floors, toilet, shower, and sink, and created a stunning new bathroom for Ms. Mary…for free!

Seeing our customers do more than build their own dream homes is so encouraging. But, these two gentlemen spent weeks fixing this up and made Mary’s way of life so much easier. They made a better way of life for her!

Guys, we can’t tell you how much we appreciate your service and the character that came out through the process. You were a blessing to Mary and to all of us through your hard work. God bless you!

Serving Mary- Helping the Helpless

When one of our customers contacted us about needing shiplap and tongue and groove for a project, we learned about a couple of men who were clearly full of character. These two gentlemen, who asked to remain anonymous, set out to help a woman in need in their small town. Her home was falling apart and she was helpless. They heard problems had developed with her bathroom and that there was water in the crawl space. They knew Mary, an 83 year old woman, could not afford to even begin the project.

They installed their southern yellow pine in their living room, kitchen, staircase, and on their porch’s vaulted ceiling.

On their porch ceiling, the ratio of their stain was 80% pecan to 20% dark oak.

We absolutely love how all the colors in their home make it a bright, cheerful, and vibrant space! It is a home with character!

On the floors, they used the Rubio Monocoat stain (it’s a single coat oil finish) with about 5% white mixed in.

The Bell Family

We are so excited for the Bells! They worked hard to build their dream house, to fill it with character, and color, and make it a home. We wish them the best!

The Bell’s Beautiful Home

Almost one year after we first talked to Mike and Cindy Bell, they came down from Indiana to pick up their southern yellow pine flooring. Thanks to covid restrictions in their home state, the Bells were forced to wait quite a while to have a chance to pick up their flooring! Progress on their new home build had stalled thanks to the restrictions. They were very excited about getting their lumber so they could move ahead!

Cindy Pittman has some serious skill in interior décor! She balanced her colors wonderfully. Her predominant paint color was white, but her wood accents were several different shades of brown and they all work together perfectly!

We love her whole house, but it is her kitchen that amazes us most! It has such an efficient layout, it looks like a very cheerful space to work in, and her black cabinets look phenomenal!

Cindy obviously knew what she wanted and made it happen. Her double islands, double ovens, and gorgeous tile backsplash are testament to this!

How about that black and white pattern on her tile floor?!? This simple mudroom is so colorful!

How about their “whitewashed” shiplap walls? It’s an interesting technique we hadn’t heard of. When asked, she explained that to get the same look one must “Spray the paint (not watered down) on, and wipe down with floor finishing pads.” As you can see, it yields fantastic results!

She is quite the hard worker, a busy and successful small business owner, a creative woman, and a truly inspirational customer!

About seven years ago, Dana expanded her small painting business to include kitchen remodeling. It was a leap of faith that she has not regretted. In fact, her husband has recently begun to work alongside her full-time because she now has such a full waitlist she needs an extra hand!

All the experience that Dana got working on her clients’ kitchens culminated in a wonderful renovation of her own kitchen that is full of jaw dropping color! She put so much inspiring thought and hard work into this room!

She has a love of bold color, individuality, and the farmhouse style of decor that is very obvious in how she finished her home. Her two sons have rooms that are clearly personalized to their tastes, and the master bedroom is stunning!

The Halls- Log Home to Farmhouse Dreams

Lisa and Troy have a heart to serve. This is evident, not only in their professions in the medical field, but in how they raised their three children, who all serve with the United States Armed Forces. The Hall's are people we want to be like. They embody traits that we pray our children will acquire and that we strive to have shine through our own lives. Lisa and Troy are kind and understanding when the going gets rough, and when it does, their perseverance and determination help them to fight through it.

In the fall of 2017, the Hall's made the brave decision to list their home on the market, and purchased a farm in Lancaster, Kentucky. The farm had a log home on it, but it needed quite a bit of renovating. They got to work planning right away, and contacted us in early 2018 to inquire about their lumber options.

Mr. McCants made the trip up several times from Monterey, TN, just east of Nashville, to pick up tongue and groove for he and his wife’s dream cabin. They built the whole thing from the ground up by themselves, and boy did it turn out great! From the walls to the ceilings, and even down to his DIY custom pine doors, Dennis wanted the natural feel that only knotty pine can bring to shine throughout their home. He nailed it!

Where do we start, when telling you about Dennis? There’s a lot you ought to know about this man. He’s brave. He’s tough. He’s generous. He will literally give you the shirt off of his back (he tried this once when I came in soaking wet from loading his trailer in the rain). Dennis is crafty and determined. He used to be a Nissan technician, but now he works tirelessly on the Tennessee highways to ensure safe travel for others. He has a passion for the outdoors (especially Dale Hollow Lake). He loves fishing! In fact, there’s only three things he loves more: his loving wife Kim, his beautiful grandchildren, and the Lord. We want to be like Dennis.

The Perfect Color

Jeff told us that, "The first coat was southern pecan and it was a little orangish, so the second coat we used spring oak. If I did it over again, I would just use spring oak."

Mini Split Cover

Jeff also covered his mini split with shiplap and it’s just the coolest idea! Those mini splits are fantastic but they can stick out like a sore thumb in some rooms. Especially rustic rooms! Jeff did an awesome job fixing that problem!

The Details

For their walls they bought cabin grade pine shiplap and for the floors they decided on pine tongue and groove.

The stain for the floors is a “dark walnut” stain and Martha finished with a clear semi-gloss polyurethane.

After living in this cozy home for about three years, they made the decision to sell and build again. They began building early 2020, and moved in just a few months before the new year!

Martha & Dustin’s Cottage of Perfection

Martha and Dustin have a fantastic new home build story, and we’re super excited to finally share it with you all! They built a cozy Sugarberry Cottage from the ground up and used a huge amount of pine finishing lumber! There is so much shiplap in that home!!!

Martha and Dustin were blessed to be able to build the home on their own, since, as she likes to say, Dustin is “handy!” This naturally prolonged the time they spent on the build (Dustin does have a full time job after all) but after beginning their build early in 2016, they came to us for finishing lumber in April of 2017. They moved in towards the end of that year!

They’ve used live edge slabs, v-groove tongue and groove, shiplap, reclaimed barnwood shiplap, chink log siding, blue stain (aka “beetle kill pine”), and bead board all through their cabins to achieve a wonderfully rustic look! These cabins are bursting with character, and looks like they make peaceful getaways

Diane and Eric did an amazing job making the cabins cozy and inviting. We especially love how each of the bedrooms is full of character and individuality - they let those knots shine!

Richmond Custom's Yellow Pine Ceiling

We LOVE this collaboration project between home-owners Paisley and Michael and their skilled craftsman Tommy! They took our southern yellow pine flooring to new heights when they decided to install some in the ceiling of their home addition. WOW did it turn out great! The way the straight lines of the tongue and groove boards contrast with the octagonal shape of the window makes for a stellar look. Good work y’all!

Barndominium- The Lasater's Dream House

Chris and Kelly first visited us in July of 2019 after talking for almost 6 months about our knotty pine shiplap and tongue and groove. They left with a huge load of our 8" Common Grade Shiplap on that trip. They were building a Barn House! Originally from Lebanon TN, the Lasater's decided to build close to home just outside of town on a big wooded lot with plenty of room for their 3 children (and Chris!) to roam. Driving through Nashville to pick up their shiplap, Kelly said she was reminded of just how much she enjoyed living in the country. We don't blame her!
