Chink Log Siding

Chink Log Siding Kentucky Lumber

This siding is a hot item for folks who are building homes. There is a limited availability, but our customers love this pattern because it gives them the old, square log look. It comes in our Run of the Mill and starts at $1.49 per sq ft. This grade will have more knots and character, but it also has more missing knots, cracks, barky edges, and other things that amount to waste.

We sell our chink log siding as a 1x10 shiplap. For more details and current pricing, feel free to contact us.

Half Log Siding

Kentucky Lumber’s Half Log siding for homes is a Pine and Fir mix of woods, making it affordable, lightweight, easy to install, and easy to finish. Siding like this has many wonderful advantages. The “cabin look” is and likely will always be popular, but constructing a true log home can be very expensive, laborious, and comes with many complications.

This 1-1/2” thick wall covering makes for easier compliance with local building codes, allows you to insulate your house in any number of ways, and gives you the ability to run your utilities inside your stud walls like you would in a traditional stick-built home, all while getting to enjoy the pleasures of a log-home look!

We sell our log siding as a 2x8 in varying lengths. This option comes in our run of the mill grade and starts at $3.25 per sq ft. This grade is technically still low grade lumber, but will have a little less of the missing knots, cracks, and character that you might see in a cabin grade lumber.

Dutch Lap Siding

Kentucky Lumber Dutch Lap Siding

Dutch lap siding is a traditional style of house siding. It was an economical option for people who wanted a plank-style siding where one side of the boards had a cupped face, or a concaved edge that laid under the board above it.

The style was made popular in the late 1800s and the German wood lapped siding was used on homes in the United States through the mid 1900s regularly. Today, many people have transitioned to a vinyl Dutch siding, but still others have kept a place in their hearts for the old lapped wood siding and the character that comes with it.

Poplar is great as an outdoor shiplap application. This is normally available in our run of the mill grade poplar as noted on the shiplap page, and starts at $2.25 per sq ft. This grade will still have cracks, barky edges, and loads of character, but it also will have fewer missing knots than our lower grades. It can be great for painting or clear coat, but can be tricky to stain as a species. We have heard that gel stains can make the staining process easier for poplar.

Where and How to Use: FLOORING

Wood flooring should bring uniqueness to a room and be installed where every board has a chance to show off its distinct character. When installed correctly, character-grade flooring is the ideal way to contrast and compliment a room.
