Creative Customers: Drying Racks

One of the more frustrating challenges to overcome for homeowners renovating or remodeling their existing spaces is finding room to finish their lumber. Our buddy Travis may have found a perfect solution!

Travis is finishing out the walls and ceiling in his music room with 8” shiplap and tongue and groove. He has started to install the T&G on his ceiling, and it’s looking awesome!

While talking about how he was staining and sealing the boards, we asked how he was staging the lumber to dry, as we knew he had limited space with which to work in. His response was to send pictures of these genius drying racks that he made!

They are built with 54 inch long 2x4’s with 4 inch pieces attached at each end using finish nails. They can fit six of the 8 inch boards across!

With these handy tools, he can stack his lumber for drying in a very compact area, rather than having to spread boards over a much larger space, meaning he can stain quicker, install faster, and get back to picking that ol’ gee-tar for his family and friends.

As an added bonus, these racks help kill two birds with one stone. They make great spacers for acclimation! Check back later for exactly how this works, and for tips to speed up this process in your home!
