Creative Customers: Making Barn Wood Floors Look Great!
Our skip planed barn wood flooring is one of the most popular products that we carry here at Kentucky Lumber. And for good reason! Check out the rich color and rustic character in this stuff!
Our first client’s to install this flooring in their home was the DeVries’, way back in 2016. Considering they had to act more or less as our guinea pigs for the new flooring, they absolutely knocked it out of the park! The pictures they sent of their home have consistently wowed us and other clients, who repeatedly ask to learn what products they used to accomplish such an awesome finish on their floors.
It may sound too good to be true, but it only took two products and a few days to finish! The floors were first installed, brushed, buffed, and vacuumed. Then, DuraSeal’s™️ “Antique Brown” oil-based penetrating stain was applied and allowed to dry. Finally, Erik and Melissa rolled on 3 coats of Pallmann™️ Pall-X 96 NexGen water-based polyurethane floor finish. That’s all there was to it! 4 years later and hundreds of barefoot miles run on the floor by their two teenagers, and they have yet to get a single splinter, scratch, or mar!
Fast forward to February 2020, when PA-local Wade Dudik contacted us about the same skip planed flooring for a getaway cabin project. He had seen the pictures of the DeVries’ floors and absolutely loved them! A few conversations later, a reservation and appointment were made, and 11 months later, we got THESE wonderful photos from Wade:
Excellent job, Wade!
Look carefully at Wade’s floor and then back to the DeVries’ floor. Notice a difference?
While they both used DuraSeal™️ Antique Brown stain and Pallman™️ Pall-X 96 polyurethane, there was one extra step Wade took that made a surprising but satisfactory difference: Pall-X Color from Pallmann™️!
Pallmann introduced this as an excellent primer/bonding layer to ensure good adhesion of the topcoat to the wood. Not only does it ensure your finish sticks, but it also enhances both the color of natural wood, and the effects of brown or black stains. This is the reason Wade’s floors are both darker, and slightly more rich in color.
We love the creativity and skill shown by Erik, Melissa, and Wade, but their individuality is what shines through the most in their floors! “Great work” to both families!
