Poplar Shiplap

Poplar! You ever heard of it? It’s a tried-but-true multi-purpose species that looks just great on walls and ceilings!

We recently started carrying poplar as a good option for folks looking to paint their projects, or those who simply wanted less knots than our knotty pine shiplap and T&G.

Poplar is known for its few, small knots, even grain structure, and smooth texture. This is a #2 common grade, so it is still a lower grade lumber to give you that strong character, but it’s a great option for those looking for a little less, or maybe even a different type of character on their walls and ceilings!

Paul and Janet, the first to purchase the new poplar shiplap, have been hard at work installing their finish lumber on the walls in their sunroom. They had planned to paint it white, but after seeing how the natural beauty of the wood contrasted so well with the floor and ceiling, they started to think that they shouldn’t touch it with a brush!

We’re not sure it gets much better than this, folks!

Kathy and her husband experienced a similar situation with their bedroom remodel, where the wood was almost too beautiful to paint! Check out their awesome work!

We’re still waiting to see pictures of how the poplar looks after it’s been painted, so for now we’ll just keep enjoying the natural beauty that these clients have showcased so well on their shiplap walls! Check back in later to see updated pictures of these rooms, and to also see the other Poplar products we offer, like tongue and groove, Dutch Lap siding, trim, and baseboard!
