Dream Homes and Dream Hardwood Floors
Once upon a time. That’s how so many stories are started, but here at Kentucky Lumber, most of ours begin with something like this: someone had a project – a dream project – and they decided to stop dreaming about it and make it reality. Many of our customers come to us for hardwood flooring and they love the character they find because that character tells a story!

Poplar is the newest addition to the list of hardwood flooring options we carry. It is absolutely bursting with character, and we are loving the distinct look! Andrew and Allison are the first to send us progress pics using poplar flooring, and their work is definitely paying off!

Southern yellow pine flooring is definitely a staple here – folks love all the character! Because this is character grade lumber (as all the lumber we carry is), it can take a little more planning and work to handle missing knots, but in the end, that extra effort is worth it! Isn’t Deb’s living room stunning?!?

One of the more eye-catching hardwoods, ambrosia maple, is so dramatic because if it full of stunning character! Similar to blue stain pine, ambrosia maple gets its unique pattern from an insect bringing a contaminate into the tree that creates the distinct look. We love seeing our customers let that character shine!

If there’s one word to describe hickory hardwood flooring, it might be “bold.” The hickory has such defined colors and it brings such an individual look to a space! We absolutely love Chris’ hickory flooring and how he loves that character as well!

Reclaimed barn wood flooring could be called many things – unique, rustic, gorgeous – but “storied” might be one of our favorite words. Each board once was used in an old Kentucky barn, many of which were once tobacco barns. Once those barns were no longer needed, they were torn down and milled down to flooring so that the wood could continue serving a purpose in homes and projects that our customers have dreamed of. Though the character of barn wood is stunning, the story behind how it ends up in folks’ dream homes is what makes this hardwood flooring so incredible!

White oak makes some incredible hardwood flooring! It may not have the bold character of hickory, or the dramatic, eye-catching patterns of ambrosia maple, but it is still full of quiet character! We love seeing dream homes taking advantage of this quiet character.
