Dream Projects: Proving How Essential They Truly Are

The last two years have left so many people feeling weighed down, confused, or encumbered. If life was a moving walkway taking the world to the next destination, they just might have stepped onto the wrong belt. They’re going in the opposite direction. With every step they take forward, the ground seems to be moving them in the opposite direction. They feel caught in a cycle of insanity. The politics, fear, media, religious scandals, death, and division. It’s pedal to the metal…in reverse.

Despite is all, our people have found a way to make progress. The cancer hit and they sprouted wings and began soaring. The media screamed another message of fear and they seemed to have temporarily gone deaf. Another horrifying scandal of a religious leader’s immorality surfaced and these folks found new depths of goodness. The big cities burned with hatred as simple folks built a beautiful future.

It’s truly amazing. While the nightmare seems to linger, our customers have had the gumption to imagine something better. They were creative. They were clever. They are dreamers. They are doers.

In a world bent on demolition, our customers have built. They’ve found unique ways to love their families. They’ve created practical ways to be generous in their communities. In a world where they have been labeled “non-essential,” they’ve proven just how essential they actually are. We’ve seen dreams erected and goals achieved.

We wanted to share just a few of our favorite projects from 2021 and allow you to feel the inspiration we get to regularly experience here at Kentucky Lumber.

Mark and his church yearly get together for a “Serve Day” where they go out into the community and put their building skills to use. This year they used poplar tongue and groove to build a bus stop for school children in an underprivileged neighborhood. Their hard work was certainly a blessing for those kids, and a true inspiration for us as well!

When you’re 83 years old, have a tight budget, and your bathroom is filling the crawl space of your home with water so that the floor joists rot, what do you do? Thankfully, when Mary found herself in just such a situation, two gentlemen in her community stepped up and voluntarily gave Mary a brand new bathroom!.

Mark is known around here as the “zero waste wizard” and he recently “finished” a hunting cabin that he’s been working on for quite a while. It was originally a small shed, but over time, he just kept adding to it, and adding to it, and adding some more and so we have our doubts about him being truly finished! This guy has so many ideas that he just has to make reality! His hard work is exciting to see!

Steve and Sue are quite the creative dreamers! This couple put a lot of hard work into building their unique pole barn home. We love how their personality shines through their work and their dedication to their dream is truly incredible!

When Chris first brought his father’s unused shed up from Tennessee, he had no idea what he was going to do with it, but it’s now a focal point of the property! After reassembling it and installing half log siding on the exterior, it became a prayer room/quiet space. Chris also added a covered porch to the building so that his wife could be near their adoptive daughter while she fished in their small pond. The story of this little cabin and how it is becoming part of their life is really incredible!

The Catholic Diocese of Evansville needed a place to train young men who were considering entering the ministry. So, Bill came out here to Allensville and got a load of tongue and groove v-groove for the project: renovating an attic into a living and studying space. He recently texted us saying that a lot of fruitful Bible studies, counselling, and training happen in this space!

Jordan really impressed us with his barnwood table! He came to us confessing that he had never DIYed something like this before, but his wife had asked for a farmhouse table for Christmas, and he was determined to make it for her. He sent us pics of it finished exactly one week before Christmas!

We are so blessed to be able to serve people like these! Our customers truly are inspirational, creative, hardworking, and compassionate and we hope to serve many more people like them in the upcoming year! Have a wonderful New Year’s!
