Who was Nellie Lee McClain? Born in 1912, Nellie was a deeply committed Christian woman. She was the owner of the Cozy Corner restaurant in Allensville, where a burger came best when it had been “run through the garden,” which literally meant topped with the veggies she raised in her own garden. Her crispy crinkle cut fries were the perfect side and her pit barbecue with homemade sauce was legend. Having lived through the Great Depression and rough years of segregation, her strength and character were unmatched.
